Sima Ladjevardian Votes Early, Talks Turnout with BBC World News
HOUSTON, Texas -- Yesterday, TX-02 Democratic nominee Sima Ladjevardian voted in-person alongside her husband and children at the Metropolitan Multiservice Center, joining hundreds of thousands of Harris County residents who have cast their ballots these first four days of in-person early vote and broke Texas turnout records in the process.
“The turnout in Texas has been unbelievable this first week of early vote, and I’m energized by the momentum we’re seeing on the ground,” Sima Ladjevardian said. “With so much at stake, from health care to COVID-19 and the economy to the environment, it’s more important than ever to make our voices and our concerns heard at the ballot box. I can’t wait to serve this community in the halls of Congress, and we have 18 days to make that dream a reality for our families.”
Earlier this week, TX-02 Democratic nominee Sima Ladjevardian joined BBC World News to discuss the implications of Texas’ sky-high voter turnout, voter suppression across the Lone Star State, and the reasons her district is primed to flip this November.
While Ladjevardian advocates for the health of her community, her opponent Dan Crenshaw has established himself as the president’s pandemic poster boy — spreading dangerous disinformation about COVID-19 and advocating for Trump’s lawsuit to gut the Affordable Care Act in the middle of this health care crisis.
Sima Ladjevardian (SEE-ma LODGE-uh-VAR-DEE-un) is a lawyer, a mother of two, a breast cancer survivor, and a political activist who has called Houston home for more than 30 years. After fleeing the political upheaval of the Iranian Revolution, her family immigrated to the United States for their shot at the American Dream. Eventually settling in Houston, Sima has become a local leader in cross-cultural dialogue, bringing Texans of all backgrounds and faiths together for social justice. As an activist, she has worked tirelessly to turn Texas blue and elect candidates up and down the ballot — all while serving senior roles in Beto O’Rourke's senate and presidential campaigns. She has been recognized by the University of Houston for her tireless philanthropic and nonprofit work in the community, and she is fueled by the desire to fight for quality, affordable health care, justice, and unity in the United States Congress.
