Major Texas Unions Endorsing Sima Ladjevardian

HOUSTON, Texas -- Today, TX-02 Democratic nominee Sima Ladjevardian announced a slate of endorsements from four major Texas unions, representing hundreds of thousands of workers across the state — including the American Federation of Government Employees, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Service Employees International Union, and the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. Today’s endorsements add to a growing list of labor support for Ladjevardian’s campaign to unseat Congressman Dan Crenshaw, the president’s pandemic posterboy, including the American Federation of Teachers.

In response to this outpouring of support, Sima Ladjevardian released the following statement:

“In a moment as critical as now, when America’s essential workers and middle class families are being left behind by the gridlock of Washington, I’m grateful to have the support of nearly every major union in Texas,” Ladjevardian said. “A healthy economy requires healthy people, and we need to guarantee the rights of those people to organize for their health care, their benefits, and their safety. While Congressman Crenshaw hurts working families and spreads dangerous disinformation about this virus, I’m ready to help lead our community’s recovery. With the support of our unions, we’re one step closer to making that dream a reality.”

Sima Ladjevardian (SEE-ma LAHJ-ee-VAR-DEE-un) is a lawyer, a mother of two, a breast cancer survivor, and a political activist who has called Houston home for more than 30 years. After fleeing the political upheaval of the Iranian Revolution, her family immigrated to the United States for their shot at the American Dream. As an activist, she has worked tirelessly to turn Texas blue and elect candidates up and down the ballot — all while serving senior roles in Beto O’Rourke's senate and presidential campaigns. She has been recognized by the University of Houston for her tireless philanthropic and nonprofit work in the community, and she is fueled by the desire to fight for quality, affordable health care, justice, and unity in the United States Congress.
