DCCC Chairwoman Bustos Names Candace Valenzuela and Sima Ladjevardian to ‘Red to Blue’ Program
DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos announced today that Candace Valenzuela and Sima Ladjevardian have been named to the DCCC’s highly competitive Red to Blue program.
Valenzuela and Ladjevardian have earned spots on the Red to Blue program by surpassing aggressive goals for grassroots engagement, local support, campaign organization and fundraising. Beyond their record of service and demonstrated ability to build a winning campaign infrastructure, they have authentic messages that connect with voters in their districts and deep ties to the diverse communities they aim to serve.
“Candace Valenzuela is an inspiration to those who have been told to think smaller,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos said. “Overcoming childhood homelessness, the first in her family to go to college and defeating an 18-year incumbent to be elected to her school board, Candace has always beat the odds. While Beth Van Duyne wants to strip health care away from Texans in a pandemic, Candace Valenzuela knows what it's like having to work multiple jobs to afford a health care bill. A rising star within our party, Candace’s campaign is on track to bring real representation to her community. She is running a strong, locally focused campaign and we are proud to stand with her as she works to flip this seat and become the first Afro-Latina elected to Congress.”
“A breast cancer survivor, mother, and advocate for working families, Sima Ladjevardian is the embodiment of the American dream,” DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos said. “Fleeing upheaval in Iran, she found a home in Houston and has spent years bringing Texans together and building stronger communities. Sima will stand up for Texans with pre-existing conditions and take on the special interests in Washington that are keeping drug costs high. While Dan Crenshaw left Houston behind and broke his promises as soon as he got to Washington, Sima is the leader Houston needs in the 2nd District.”
Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to develop strong campaigns. Additionally, through Red to Blue the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings and more.
There are now five Texans on the DCCC’s selective Red to Blue program. Valenzuela and Ladjevardian join Wendy Davis in TX-21, Sri Preston Kulkarni in TX-22 and Gina Ortiz Jones in TX-23.
