HOUSTON, Texas -- This week, the Sima for Texas campaign is here to help you connect the dots of dangerous disinformation spread by Donald Trump’s favorite COVID-19 mouthpiece — Congressman Dan Crenshaw. As the virus ravages Houston and ICUs reach capacity across the region, Crenshaw went viral for all the wrong reasons yesterday, blaming Black Lives Matter protests and defying the governor on Fox & Friends.

Sima Ladjevardian, the Democratic nominee for Texas’ 2nd Congressional District, issued the following statement in response to Crenshaw’s claims:

“As Houston rapidly becomes one of the worst affected cities in the world from COVID-19, we are watching Dan Crenshaw twist the truth, deceive worried Texans, and defy Governor Abbott’s own explanations for this terrible spike. While Congressman Crenshaw held no-mask campaign events all around Houston and spread dangerous lies about coronavirus, our city was ravaged by a highly contagious disease. It is more clear than ever that Dan Crenshaw is more concerned with defending Donald Trump and his political ambitions than defending the health of our Houston community. I am deeply disturbed by Dan Crenshaw’s factless blaming of Black Lives Matter protestors, and even more troubled by his apathy as his constituents suffer.”

But don’t just take our word for it. Members of the press, health officials, fellow politicians, and a whole cast of characters aren’t letting Crenshaw twist the truth:

  • Jamil Smith, Senior Writer at Rolling Stone

  • Jessica Huseman, Lead Reporter for ProPublica’s Electionland

  • Charlie Sykes, Founder & Editor-at-large of Bulwark

  • Tim Miller, Former Presidential Communications Director for Jeb Bush and Former RNC Spokesman

  • Jeremy Konyndyk, senior policy fellow at the Center for Global Development and former director of USAID’s Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) under President Obama

  • El Paso Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16)

  • Seth Abramson, Professor, Attorney, Author, and political columnist at Newsweek

  • Wisconsin Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02)

  • Molly Jong-Fast, Editor-at-large at Daily Beast

  • And our personal favorite: Michael Kelly aka Doug Stamper, Former Chief of Staff to President Frank Underwood. If this guy calls you a fear monger...

Stay classy, Dan. Stay classy.
