Dan Crenshaw Fact Checks Dan Crenshaw’s Energy Ad
HOUSTON, Texas -- On October 1, Congressman Dan Crenshaw openly disparaged clean energy like wind and solar — referring to these cost-effective, pragmatic job creators as “silly solutions.” Just 13 days later, the congressman is now changing his tune — claiming he’ll “make America the world leader in clean energy innovation” in his latest ad.
FACT: Just two weeks ago, Crenshaw disparaged clean energy opportunities like wind and solar — which employ more than 15,000 Texans in his district alone — as “silly solutions.”
As the Houston Chronicle’s Jeremy Wallace notes:
U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw on Thursday criticized the emphasis on developing wind and solar energy to combat climate change, saying the people advocating it are being disingenuous and not really looking to reduce emissions.
“So these people are disingenuous to begin with, so it’s hard to argue with people who aren’t really looking for the solutions,” Crenshaw said.
“So these things don’t work,” Crenshaw said. “These are silly solutions. They’re no solutions at all.”
And as the Houston Chronicle’s Chris Tomlinson notes:
“A reasonably informed voter would expect a Houston congressman representing the energy capital of the world to know something about Texas’s electric grid, but U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw demonstrated a deficit of information when trying to impress oil and gas lobbyists last week.”
“Texas is the nation’s largest producer of wind power, and solar energy is the fastest-growing source of power on the state’s grid. Wind and solar employ 143,000 Texans, and Houston has become a hub for electricity trading.”
“For reasons I cannot fathom, conservatives such as Crenshaw like to mislead the public about the viability of wind and solar energy, limitless fuels that have kept electricity prices in Texas among the lowest in the nation.”
In response, TX-02 Democratic nominee Sima Ladjevardian dropped the following mic:
